Each week, OOR Studio reaches out to various artists, musicians, and those with all-around good taste to create a playlist for us to play within our offices. Of course we share the best ones with you! Safe to say, we are curious about what is coming next.
WEEKEND PLAYLIST PT.43: ELISA LOAH
This weeks playlist is coming from berlin based artist ELISA LOAH. The German-Brazilian singer-songwriter released her first album “Melanin Queen” in 2020, consisting of eight songs and very honest words about heartbreak and desire. With her playlist she leads us through 15 soft R’n’B sounds from various artists.
Which topics are you concerned with and do they have an influence on your sound?
I am concerned with a lot of things. When it comes to my art, I am concerned with the lack of support for female artists and the lack of female artist representation in Germany. I can count all female BIPOC artists on one hand. It’s tough for us to introduce a new sound and make ourselves noticeable as it is. I want to contribute to change and enable a safer space, where women like me receive the respect and support we work so hard for and deserve.
How did music shape you ?
I’ve been listening to music and creating music since I can remember. Music is my passion and it makes me happy. On one hand it can be inspirational and empowering to me, on the other hand it’s an outlet for me to process my emotions, thoughts and phantasies. I can create my own little stories within my songs, create a contagious vibe and hopefully inspire others. When I’m in my zone, writing songs, singing, recording, I forget about problems, fears and whatever is going on in my day to day life. Music is my happy place and also my sanctuary, where I can turn a bad experience or negative emotions into a work of art and capture it in my songs. It turns into something I can be proud of.
What is your first EP „Melanin Queen“ about?
My first mini album contains 8 unique songs. It’s about love, heartbreak and desire. It’s also about feeling sexy and confident, being a female boss and loving yourself the way you are. It’s about me and my stories, growing as a woman and an artist.
How do you create your music?
I mainly work from my cozy little home studio in my bedroom. I write my own melodies and lyrics and I always work by myself when it comes to day-to-day music making, capturing new ideas, trying different styles and genres and just being creative, looking to make a new hit. My brother is a music producer and sound engineer, so he does my beats, mix and mastering in the final process. When I work on final versions for songs that I want to release, I go to the studio with him where we produce and record everything together and make it perfect.
What’s next on your agenda?
I released “Melanin Queen” in March 2020. My best friend and business partner Fafa helps me with all the creative concepts and music video production. Right now, we are planning our next moves, constructing a new release plan for all my new songs and slowly starting on preproduction. Let yourselves be surprised, it’s going to be very exciting!
