FRÄULEIN’S CRUSH: MARRAKECH INTENSE EAU DE TOILETTE BY AESOP

vor 4 years

There are items that we like, and there are items that we love. There are items we collectively laugh over, bond over, swoon over, and there are definitely pieces we are singularly obsessed with.

We have decided to dedicate a weekly declaration of love to particular fashion and beauty items that may not forever be iconic or relevant, but are currently making us feel some type of way. Enjoy the latest obsessions of our editorial team. Welcome to Fräulein’s Crush!

This week we have our managing editor Sam Kavanagh sharing his hope for holiday gifting. Sam is someone who constantly thinks he needs a new signature scent. A number of his lunch breaks have been spent scouring Andreas Murkudis for a small batched niche bottle with a price tag of 300EUR. When asked what he is up to on a Saturday, of course he is at Voo, asking for testers and finding dates at the perfume counter. I respect his approach to always smelling good. I like that he saves his coins on designer threads and chooses rather to spend them evoking lingering memories for himself and those around him. I am even happier to know that this is now his newly chosen bottle. I once smelled him wearing a scent that shall not be named, but it came in a concrete bottle and smelled of bubble gum. So not Sam. But this? Masculine, tasty, comforting. Perfect.

“We’ve had many scents featured on our FRÄULEIN’S CRUSH feature, however there is none more special (IMO) than this classic fragrance from Australia’s finest luxury skin care brand, Aesop. Aesop is a brand close to my heart, having even tried to work in one of their Berlin shops, though my German was (still is) pretty weak. I remember being introduced to the brand while I lived in London, around 7 years ago when I was working for a very well known department store in Knightsbridge. Once I was recommended by the concession assistant to visit a real shop to get the ‘full experience’ and I was intrigued. Upon entering the shop, I was immediately caught off guard by the scents flaring through my nose. The rustic interior of the store, the brown bottles – it was as if I had been transported to a quaint apotheke of yesteryear. The delicate brown bottles placed so neatly along the shelves drew me in like Alice in Wonderland.

Many years have passed since I had my first encounters with Aesop and their products, I have tried and tested most of them with some positive and negative reactions (sensitive skin is real, people!) but the one which I seem to go back to is their fragrance, Marrakech. This 50ml eau de toilette concoction is delivered in a kitsch brown bottle, and continues to bring me the same feelings of ethereal bliss since the first spritz sprayed many moons ago. I’m clearly a lover of a cedar fragrance (it was a close call between this one and COMME des GARÇONS, Wonderwood) but Marrakech captured me. It is a fragrance which is raw and unapologetic in its delivery of spice and wood. I’ve never been to Morocco but I imagine the bazaars have a lingering scent similar. It’s a bold fragrance that draws its primary inspirations from the city of Marrakech: the aromas of the spices of traditional dishes and the intense colors characteristic of local bazaars. The spicy notes are balanced with jasmine, neroli, and bergamot and lead to a captivating effect. I picked up my most recent bottle from the Berlin Mitte Neue Schönhauser Strasse shop, it’s the perfect space for some self-care and R&R.

Travel might be restricted this year, but you can always feel captured in a Moroccan moment with Marrakech. A perfect gift for all family members with an appreciation for scent.
