FRÄULEIN CRUSH: ROMBAUT CACTUS LEATHER SKI BELT

vor 4 years

There are items that we like, and there are items that we love. There are items we collectively laugh over, bond over, swoon over, and there are definitely pieces we are singularly obsessed with.

We have decided to dedicate a weekly declaration of love to particular fashion and beauty items that may not forever be iconic or relevant, but are currently making us feel some type of way. Enjoy the latest obsessions of our editorial team. Welcome to Fräulein’s Crush!

For this week’s installation, we have our graphic designer Pablo Martin-Ortiz, and while he has just started on our team, with his dry British sense of humor, he has settled into the office very well. He has a background in fashion, so it was natural that his first Fräulein crush would be a staple piece that is both timeless and understated for both on and off the ski slopes, the Rombaut Ski Belt, made of Mexican cactus leather.

“I tend to wear everything until it breaks and I also move around a lot. This means that every so often, I get rid of a ton of old possessions. A lot of tees and hoodies get lost in transit, but accessories always last with me. I’m also an avid skier, and a graphic designer with a menswear background, so I have a soft spot for things that are functional but also look good.

My friend works with Rombaut, which is a vegan accessories label based in Paris. For the A/W season, they made this belt from sustainable Mexican cactus leather. It has a ski boot closure on the front and comes in black (my most recent move was to Berlin, after all). I think it’s great that there are so many alternatives to traditional leather on the market nowadays, and as a recent flexitarian who is trying to make the shift away from meat and leather altogether, this went straight on my list to Santa. I think the belt’s awesome! And I’m always happy to support smaller labels that my friends are involved with. Especially if they’re sustainable. 🙂 “
