FRÄULEIN CRUSH: MYKITA x MAISON MARGIELA

vor 3 years

There are items that we like, and there are items that we love.

THERE ARE ITEMS WE COLLECTIVELY LAUGH OVER, BOND OVER, SWOON OVER, AND THERE ARE DEFINITELY PIECES WE ARE SINGULARLY OBSESSED WITH.

MYKITA and Maison Margiela have been in creative dialogue since 2013.
The brands merge in their values and innovative ideas. The constant questioning of the status quo and the search for progressive innovation meet the radical-subversive approaches, which one has always been accustomed to from Maison Margiela.
Both brands strive for constant reinterpretation of historical forms, as well as experimentation with constructions. Here, a rather unconventional approach to materials is often expressed, which ultimately results in unmistakably unique designs.

Both brands are focused on establishing new aesthetic codes rather than repeating conventional luxury attributes and visible logos. The focus is on the design and its craft background, as well as the disclosure of materiality and construction.

Together, both brands now designed 4 collections, which run under the names “Craft“, “Echo” , “Essential” and “Raw“.
Craft” reinterprets a historical, ornamental aesthetic in a functionally modern context. The line includes delicately constructed frames of flat stainless steel paired with lenses in rich colors.
With “Echo,” the two brands pay homage to the iconic eyewear shapes we know. Feminine cateye glasses in a soft yet attention-grabbing color backdrop create an image of innovative elegance.
Lastly, minimalist material concepts meet in “Essential“. Here functionality becomes the aesthetic guideline and present radical aesthetics.
Classic design and modern expression meet in the line “Raw“, which finally pays special attention to the traces of modern technology.
