FRÄULEIN CRUSH: Mizuno x Sorayama Sneakers

vor 4 years

There are items that we like, and there are items that we love. There are items we collectively laugh over, bond over, swoon over, and there are definitely pieces we are singularly obsessed with.

We dedicate a weekly declaration of love to particular fashion and beauty items that may not forever be iconic or relevant, but are currently making us feel some type of way. Enjoy the latest obsessions of our editorial team. Welcome to Fräulein’s Crush!

For this week’s crush, we have our new editorial intern Antonia revealing her love for sneakers and her proclivity for sexy robots;)

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the sneaker type. You would see me wearing Vans classic slip-ons (plaid with rose print – hell yes) in elementary school. I can still recall the excitement I felt the day my parents finally decided to buy them for me. Vans were then quickly followed by my first pair of Nike Air Max 1 in a silver turquoise colorway – today I am still in the Nike camp over Adidas, and actually, I’m writing this with Air Force 1s on my feet. My go-to look is a stylish pair of sneakers, contrasted with a turtleneck sweater and an extra-long wool coat in winter.

That’s why I thought it only right to write my first Fräulein Crush about my latest sneaker obsession I just discovered and fell in love with. And no – they are neither Nikes nor Vans. To you, dear readers, I introduce the hottest (and newest) collaboration in the world of sneakers and fashion. Japanese sports label Mizuno teamed up with the artist and master of hyperrealism Hajime Sorayama for a reinterpretation of the Wave Prophecy shoe. Sorayama, who most recently made a splash in the fashion world by collaborating with Dior Homme for their F / W 2019 collection, is especially known for his erotic fembot sculptures which are crafted from silver Mylar (remember the Bella Hadid inspired robot?)

The silver-detailed sneaker represents Sorayama’s aesthetic perfectly, featuring a very special sole that contains large air pockets and translucent parts. Being the most memorable part of the design, the goal was to add more flexibility to the shoe. So basically, you float wearing these. How cool is that? The light and futuristic upper is provided with a silver run-bird-logo while the heel is also designed in silver-metallic tones.

Oh and also, good luck getting your hands on a pair of the Wave Prophecy Sorayama, because as far as I can see, they’re sold out on the only German platform they were available ( Voo Store , where else?) But how lucky we are to live in a time where there is such a thing as international shipping, with sneakers delivered to our doorstep. (Order moderately though, and think of our environment whilst shopping online!)”
