It was one of the first days of autumn (in Berlin you could almost call it winter) when we opened our doors on 12th September during Berlin Art Week to welcome you all.
A THROWBACK: “PROXIMITY” AT SCHLACHTER 151
Spread across our entire space, Ari Versluis showed a total of 93 of his portraits taken at Go See’s in the 1990s and personally guided his guests through the exhibition. The exhibition marks the first spatial presentation of “Proximity” and offers an insight into Versluis’ forthcoming book “Open House”. Identity, authenticity and individuality are the core themes of the exhibited works.
In partnership with Timberland, cult brand of the 90s and mirror of the current zeitgeist, the brand’s iconic 6-inch boots became a tangible part of the exhibition. As you enter the first exhibition room, you come across several pairs of Timberlands staged at the entrance. They turn to an accessible element of the installation, can be touched and even tried on, offering the wearer the opportunity to see themselves in them.
“Proximity” marks a shared journey through the 90s, but also the personal journey of the individual and the momentum of memory.
DJ Don L. Gaspàr Ali carried the crowd through the evening with his music in the iconic backyard of Schlachter 151, that defies wind and weather.
Thank you for spending these hours with us. See you soon!
