There are items that we like, and there are items that we love. There are items we collectively laugh over, bond over, swoon over, and there are definitely pieces we are singularly obsessed with.
This week, our lovely Online Editor, Janna (who, by the way, is the only person I know who cannot be forced into jogging pants by lockdown) shares with us her current crush. Of course, it can’t be anything ordinary here either, it must be just as extraordinary as Janna herself. A peek into her bathroom, a deodorant in the form of a cream in a soft olive-green tube. Perfect for your handbag, and if it’s recommended by Janna, you should definitely keep an eye out for it:

It’s deodorant. Aluminum-free, totally natural, herby deodorant.
I could wax poetic about my experiences in trying to find the holy grail of deodorant that works, which doesn’t clog my pores with cancer-causing metals (I’m looking at you, aluminum), doesn’t leave a cough-inducing fog of aerosol in the air, does’t irritate my skin with drying alcohol, doesn’t smell like after shave, and isn’t sticky or gooey. Okay, so I want perfection, don’t we all?
I have found various deodorants of all shapes and sizes and price points that tick off one or two of the boxes. The natural crystal stick is good, but it leaves me sticky. The Tom’s natural line smells nice but doesn’t work. The Weleda Sage spray comes close to being great, and is what I have used for the last couple years, but it contains alcohol and it dries my skin out, which is especially not good for the times in which I decide to shave under my arms. I’m sorry to say, Weleda, but you have just been dethroned by the Münich-based line NKM.
Before this, I had never tried a cream deodorant because I thought it would be too… icky. But I gave this deodorant cream by NKM a shot because it contains sage, and I find that sage is perhaps the key ingredient to keeping your skin nice and dry and not too sweaty. I hoped with my fingers crossed that it would work. And I was right! Not only does it work in keeping me dry, it also first moisturizes, similar to a lotion. You wouldn’t think you want moisture under you arms, but it soaks in quickly and leaves a nice soft barrier. The Herb scent is wonderful- dry and piney (there are two scents; another one is scented of rose, if that’s your thing.) The tube is very pretty- it’s the first deodorant I have proudly displayed on my vanity. And it being totally natural a good thing, because my flatmate definitely brushed his teeth with it on the first day it lived with us. Imagine his face when he saw me applying what he thought was ‘toothpaste’ to my armpits. (Admittedly, he has seen me do stranger.)
